I dedicate this blog to optometry. I am thankful for all the adventures and opportunities this career path has opened for me.

I’ve got to say, I’ve been looking for information regarding Optometry school and going the Air Force route for like 2 years now, and this is the first time I’ve stumbled across something that isn’t close to 10 years old or just completely irrelevant. In about 3 blog posts you’ve managed to answer more of my questions than my two years of browsing the internet has been able to. Thank you!

Thanks! I’m glad this has been helpful! I’ll continue to write new posts as I get updates from the HPSP:)

  2. This really is the most helpful thing I have found to date regarding Pre-Optometry, HPSP, and the application process. I can’t thank you enough for your insights into what the NECO program is actually like, how HPSP works, etc. My plan is to apply to optometry schools for 2014-2015 year. I am from Oregon, but my boyfriend is from Boston. We spent three weeks there last month and I visited NECO for the first time. My first choice was Pacific (I was born in Forest Grove, where it is located) until I visited NECO last week. My experience was similar to yours. I am really wanting to go the HPSP route via the Navy. I have so many questions I want to ask, but for now – is the stipend for you to use for housing costs or does HPSP reimburse for housing and give you the stipend on top of that? I’m curious because housing costs are black and white in Oregon vs. Boston. Thank you again!

Your blog is great, you gave me more info about the HPSP.I have been looking into going the same route but like more information about it. I would like to hear how your active duty is going as an optometrist now?
